Just finished these two water colour and ink paintings this morning. Below are Photographs of the artworks as they are still too wet to scan. Hope you enjoy them, and thank you for visiting. I now have to scan and catalogue them and they will be off to the framer in time for the Swaffham Rotary Club Art Exhibition, 29th to 31st October 2021, The Assembly Rooms, Market Place, Swaffham.
I have been working on two paintings at the same time which I started in 2015. Resources are from photographs which my husband took for me at the Soham Ploughing Championships in 2013.
In the spring of 2015, I produced two line drawings on tracing paper to transfer on to good water colour paper and then paint them. However, I ran out of time because I received several commissions and typesetting jobs so the two artworks were “filed”. I then had the chance to have a stand at the Suffolk Horse Society Spectacular at Elveden in September 2015 so hurriedly scanned the drawings and made some sepia coloured canvas prints and cards, of which I sold quite a few on the day.
Having totally forgotten about the drawings since then, when seeking inspiration, I had a delve into my “sketchbook suitcase” and they were rediscovered. I felt it was time to promote them to being completed. Primarily water colour, but with black and gold ink, the pictures below show progress so far. I hope to complete them for an exhibition at the end of October (2021!!). I hope you like them. (Painted on Aquarelle Arches 100% cotton rag 12″ x 16″.)

13th May 2021: Just heard from the East Anglian Artists that this painting, “An Old Cock in a Tree at Woodbridge”, has been selected for this year’s IEA Open Exhibition at Holt Gallery – lovely!

I applied again this year to exhibit at the Institute of East Anglian Artists Annual Open Exhibition, but unfortunately I did not receive a lovely email telling me I had made it 🙁
It cost £10 per picture to enter and, like the Association of Women Artists, who have the same procedure, it feels like I have been jilted—paying money for nothing in return. But I suppose how else are these institutions to fund their organisations.
Nothing lost, I now have four pictures which I can put somewhere else. I wish the IEA much success with their exhibition, and to all the artists who did make it, my hearty congratulations.
Even though the wind is bitterly rasping, some spring flowers in my little wild garden have remained steadfast and continue to give a good show. (Although the Marsh Marigold, or Kingcup, flowers are all lying flat in the water under ice!)
I am not sure why Snakeshead Fritillaries continue to grow in my clayey-space but I am very pleased they do with their beautiful, nodding heads. Here is a little poem I wrote about them:
The RHS so love this flora
They really like its bell-shaped aura
‘Award of Garden Merit’ gained
This hardy native flower named
With checkered pattern all bizarre
From Mauve to white this lovely flower
Grows in grass or under shrubs
Or proudly shows in giant tubs
The purple bells ‘sing’ with the lark
The white ones have a ‘watermark’
Extremely hardy, trouble-free
In splendour grow for all to see (except when the Lily beetle comes!)
