Rex’s Helianthus Artist Code 2417. ORIGINAL Oil on Chunky Box Canvas 50cm wide x 1m high. Started September 2022 with background and outline drawing, and actual painting began September 2024. COMPLETED 17th December 2024. (Due to be varnished end of June 2025.)

The painting of this artwork was continually interrupted by other things—family, friends, golf, tennis, other commissions, etc., hence the long drawn-out time it took to complete. “Rex” allowed me to pick the flowers which grew in his garden in 2022, which is when I drew the outline onto the canvas, hoping to make this a quick artwork to exhibit and sell.
During the first session of painting I managed to complete the background (September 2022); I started the actual flowers two years on in September 2024! I completed about a third of the flowers, then had to stop again for other projects.
Between September and November 2024 I was heavily into the other projects, including another large oil painting commission. I eventually turned again to this composition on 13th December, the day after I had completed the commission.
Obviously painting the flowers was the best (and quickest bit!), and it was completed on 17th December 2024.
