COMMISSION: Wall Panel – bring the garden indoors
Artist Code 2311.

A variety of garden flowers from the Commissioner’s Garden. Acrylic on 100% soft cotton canvas. Wall Panel number 1, Completed 31st December 2023

Commissioned in September 2023, I was asked to visit a beautiful garden to take photographs of the plants which grow in it and produce two wall panels to fit spaces exactly between wall beams in a listed cottage. After producing an initial drawing for approval, I worked on the canvases to make the background the same colour as the existing wall inside the cottage, colouring both panels at the same time so that they were the same. Both panels are different shapes. Panel 1 (this one) is the largest.

View the initial story by clicking here. You may notice that the pink in the initial painting is a lot brighter than the finished item below. This is because the commissioner preferred a duller colour to blend with the room decor. A light lemon yellow wash for the top roses and a pale blue wash for the middle roses did the trick!

This first panel represents the garden plants; the second one (Artist Code 2312) shows a more wild aspect of plants which grow there with a very limited colour palette and includes a garden deer sculpture.

The second panel was completed 14th February and was installed 22nd March 2024 (view Picture Profile)

The panel was protected and varnished it was installed in early January 2024 using fish glue (to protect the listed cottage wall) which can be reversed with water. I was thankful that I had got my template measurements correct, and the cutting and gluing went all to plan. See below for the panel in situ.
