Hemerocallis “Selma Longlegs”

Artist Code 2403. Completed 12th August 2023. Original water colour on Aquarelle Arches 24” x 18”—Life size rendition. Framed size 23” x 29”.

I made the decision in July 2025 to remove this painting from its frame and use it as a resource to paint another in due course – or throw it away! The Artist code will be re-used

This painting, as with Artist Code 2402 “Dark Monkey”, was originally painted to be part of my submission to the RHS, I did not like this one at all when it was completed. I may try to do it again in a slightly different composition—this one does not accurately show the colour of the flowers, nor the shape so a “disgruntlement” all round.

UPDATE JULY 2025: As time has passed so quickly and other projects (and life happenings) got in the way, I am now in my last year (November 2025) of being able to complete and submit my RHS project. I still have all the resources to do it, just no time, so a “bucket list” item will probably have to be quashed!

It is not a very good depiction, and I was very annoyed with myself for being unable to spot its ghastly discrepancies before completing it. But this is the first disaster I have had in years so cannot really complain! (Not one of my better efforts, shall we say!).

It will be removed from its frame and either thrown in the bin or stored completely out of sight.
