Picture Profile: 1703 Fairy Flower and Brimstone (Native English Bluebell)

Botanical Illustration. Artist Code: 1703. Hyacinthoides non-scripta (British Bluebell) and Brimstone Butterfly (Gonepteryx). SOLD (private sale December 2018). Completed July 2017. Original life size Water colour on Aquarelle Arches 100% Hot Pressed cotton rag paper (240lb). Unframed size 14” x 20”.

Painted for a special worldwide Botanical Exhibition in May 2018, my picture unfortunately failed the selection process. However, it was fun painting it. Resource material was collected from Bourn Golf Club, Cambridgeshire.

A Little Poem:
The Fairy Bells of Native Flower, Give seeing eyes a pleasurable hour
Long elegant stalks in breezes sway, Seeds from flowers come day by day
Neath waking trees in leafy glade, The flowers must bloom before the shade
of summer’s plume blocks out the light, and hides till next year such a sight
And snow white bulb will grow so plump, As brimstone hides in leafy clump
